El legado de Nightingale

Resumen

Si se pretende comprender la situación actual de la enfermería, es requisito imprescindible remontarse en el tiempo, mirar de forma retrospectiva en la búsqueda de acontecimientos o personajes relevantes para la disciplina enfermera.

De este modo, y con la humilde intención de poder conocer más sobre qué es la enfermería, en el presente trabajo nos adentraremos en la figura de Florence Nightingale, considerada como la fundadora de la enfermería moderna.

“El progreso humano no es una creación continua. De vez en cuando cobra aliento gracias al impulso de algunos grandes espíritus. Pero para que se escuche y comprenda su mensaje es necesario que haya llegado a su tiempo” (Sendrail; 1983)

The Nightingale Legacy

Abstract:

If the aim is to gain insight into the current situation of the nursing career, it is essential to go back in time and take a retrospective look in search of the knowledge or individuals that played a relevant role in the discipline of nursing.
In this manner, and with the humble intention of getting to know more on what nursing is, this paper will explore the character of Florence Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing.

“Human progress is not a continuous creation. From time to time, it resurfaces thanks to the impulse of some powerful spirits. But for its message to be understood and heard, it is necessary for its time to have arrived”. (Sendrail 1983)
