Contact email: alexsandrams.enf@gmail.com Abstract Objective: to evaluate the outcomes related to the attributions of nurses in a hospital institution regarding the identification and notification of potential multiple organ donors.Methods: a cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out with nurses from a hospital in the southern region of Brazil, selected by sequential sampling, between March and December 2017. Data was collected using a questionnaire.Results: 60% of the participating nurses were aged between 21 and 53, 91.4% were female, 71.4% had a lato sensu degree and the majority (57.2%) were care nurses. About the outcomes related to nurses’ duties, when it comes to identifying and notifying potential donors, 45.72% do not notify, 31.5% are unaware of the legal authorizer for those over 18 and 34.3% for those under 18.Conclusions: the responses obtained show that nurses are responsible for identifying, notifying and maintaining potential organ and tissue donors. However, weaknesses were pointed out which could have repercussions on the number of donations and people on waiting lists.
