Abstract
A convenience non-probabilistic sampling was used in the study. The methodology used for data collection was: observation of the participant, discussion group, open interview with key informants and affected women, multiple answer questionnaire and open questions.
The results and critical analysis have been grouped together distinguishing between city and rural women, based on the adaptation modes of S. Callista Roy.
With regard to the Physiological Mode, we do not consider it to be of relevance in our study as we only focus on the subjective perceptions of breast cancer.
With regard to the Self-Concept Mode, we find that rural women give less importance to breast reconstruction than city women.
Regarding the role these women play, all women, regardless of whether they live in a rural or in an urban area, coincide that the disease has not represented any changes in the performance of their roles, they only required some assistance during their convalescence period.
Regarding the Independence Mode, the areas covered were such as social support and family and relative networks. All women regarded the family as the fundamental pillar for their recovery, with the observation that city women give more importance to the networks of social support than rural women.
