Abstract

Nowadays, nursing is retaking the fundamental objective of its true professional role and is focusing on the human being who is need of care, taking this care as the main role of the nursing activity. By analysing the past we are able to plan a seamless future, or a future with the fewest possible gaps, enabling us to become conscious of those events of our past that were an impediment for our professional development. It also enables us to corroborate some issues that had always been “assumed”, and to reinforce our conviction that the history of nursing is written from the eyes of a “women”. This, in itself, is a transcendental fact in the evolution of nursing if we take into account that the role women have played in society is not a direct result of what they have done but rather the result of the sense that society has given to the role they play in the daily routine.
History shows a dialogue between the events of the past and the objectives of the future that progressively emerge, and because of this, to get to know our history will help us to plan our future, or, in Ma. Paz Mompart´s  quoted words “Nursing as poetry, is a weapon charged with the future”.
