Abstract

In the month of May 2003, as we get closer to the International Day without Smoking, and in light of the latest statistics published by the different national and international organisations on tobacco consumption, which ascribe it to be one of the principal causes of premature death evitable all around the world and also in light of the results presented by some studies on the benefits provided by healthcare interventions on how to quit smoking, an activity was organised at the Goya I Health Care Centre /Area 2 of the Primary Care Network of Madrid), with the aim of making users aware of the severe repercussion that the use of tobacco has on their health and informing them of other realistic alternatives that would enable them to quit, such as consultation with the nurse on what to do to quit smoking.

This activity consisted in the realisation and exhibition of a 5 sq meter wall poster on this subject, as well as the presence of a nurse next to the stand on the International Day without Smoking, reinforcing the message of the poster.
