Abstract

From its very beginnings, nursing has been influenced by gender considerations, as it is considered a predominantly career for women. This has conditioned its evolution and development, giving rise to a profession that was could not reach the foreseen goals. Now, in which theoretically we should have overcome sexists roles, we see that the profession continues to be marginated in several ways, giving a devaluated image of the activities carried out by the nurses, despite the social importance of their role they play. In this article we wish to analyse, both from a historical point of view as well as a methodological point of view, regarding the causes that put nursing in the place it occupies and the possible alternatives that improve this situation.
