A descriptive analysis was carried out in four outpatient offices of council 4 of policlinic number 2 in the city of Manzanillo. The aim of the study was to determine the smoking habit in young adolescents from December to April 2005. Variables such as age, gender, job, school situation, time since smoking was started, type of smoker, number of time when the subject attempted to quit, and associated symptoms were studied. After data analysis, the following was determined: subjects aged 18 to 20 were predominant, there were male smokers mainly, and students who had been smoking for 6 to 12 months. The type of smoker (according to tobacco consumption) was a moderate smoker, who had started smoking due to curiosity and attempted to quit on two occasions, but was only successful for days or even hours.
