Abstract

This is an exploratory, descriptive study carried out on 263 young people aged 16 to 24 years, living in different cultural settings of the “Comunidad de Madrid” (district of Madrid). The study was carried out through the administration of a questionnaire validated by means of a pilot study that contained 17 items: 12 of these were closed questions and 4 were open questions.

Young people go out on the weekend as a way to socialise and safety is certainly not their first priority when it is time to enjoy their leisure time. This hypothesis is not verified in the study.

The most relevant contribution of the study comes from analysing the open questions that configure the questionnaire. Among the conclusions, it is worth pointing out that these youngsters claim that teaching methods are not very personalised, they live the present and do not have long-terms goals and objectives, demanding sporting or creative activities, as well as recreational or leisure areas where they can get together to talk without having to spend money.
