Abstract

The principal mission of Higher Health Education is to train high-level human resources that foster the health of all individuals, the community and society in general. The conceptual basis of health is that health is not only the absence of disease but also a psychological and social wellbeing, an objective that is not being fulfilled in many places of the world despite the tremendous effort made during this century in biomedical research. The curricular development of the training in nursing human resources from the success of the revolution to the present time has been carried out in a fast way and has undergone several levels: ancillary, technical, post basic, professional and postgraduate. At the beginning of the XXI century, it is not possible to continue developing a nursing education with the same patterns that up till today. The main challenge will be to apply what has been achieved until now and to continue training these human resources in the labour task and for the labour task. This should be done with critical and reflective thinking and good ethics that is humanitarian and sympathetic, capable of assuming disciplinary measures to improve the health and quality of life of our population. This is the objective of this 4th generation elaboration process of education plans that we will generically call “D” Plans – that the changes resulting from the current battle of ideas that our population is having be integrated into this enhancement.
