Abstract

Most students leave home to study in cities other than where they normally live when they reach university. This is clearly seen at the EUEM -Melilla School of Nursing- where 67,4% of the alumni are non-resident and 32,6% resident in Melilla.
The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which university studies modify healthy habits (food habits, physical exercise, sexual frequency, and consumption of toxic substances).
A descriptive study was carried out in the month of February 2002. Data was collected from 116 EUEM students, aged 18 to 34 years, who filled out a self-administered questionnaire.
After the data were analysed, it was concluded that even though the sample consisted of health-related subjects who were supposed to know about health habits, these same subjects did not apply the knowledge to their own benefit.
