Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition that severely affects the daily activities and quality of life of about 10% of women. It usually presents with pain in the infraumbilical and breast areas, changes in appetite, irritability, low self-esteem, weight increase, etc. On many occasions traditional treatment with hormone-based contraceptives, antidepressants, diuretic drugs, mephanamic acid and antiprostaglandin drugs have not provided a significant response to the problem.
Apart from this, it is worth pointing out that current dietary habits in our setting appear to have a negative impact on this condition, leading to a worsening of the symptoms.
This experimental, analytical study shows how the application of therapies in the reflex area of the feet for a minimum of 10 sessions and certain diet recommendations given during such sessions significantly improve PMS.
