Abstract

The aim of this bibliographic research study was to carry out a review of the literature, compiling and linking different information sources on vesical alterations in subjects who had sustained medullary trauma with a view to further learning. A bibliographic search of 24 texts was carried out, consisting of: 9 articles from national and international papers, 9 text books, 3 electronic texts (from the Internet), 2 doctoral theses, and 1 book on research methodology. The consulted materials pertained to medullary lesions, neurogen bladder, and vesical anterations. The descriptors used as criteria for inclusion into the study sample were medullary trauma, medullary lesion, and vesical alterations; and medullary lesion, and neurogen bladder; neurogen blader and complications. The findings enabled us to elaborate there subject or theme categories for the study; medullary trauma and its complications; vesical alterations; why do they occur?, and complications of neurogen bladder. The analysed studies appear to indicate that neurogen bladder is one of the main vesical alterations triggered by the interruption of the appropriate enervation of the bladder. The onset of this situation, whether due to a lack of care or to a lack of appropriate therapeutic measures can cause complications such as infections of the urinary tract, hydronephrosis, or lithyasis, amongst others. The study contributed towards furthering our knowledge on medullary lesions.
