Abstract

Human care is fundamental for life, for evolution and for the individual’s health. For nurses, caring is part of the essence of their profession.
The concept of comfort is composed of psychological, physical, social and cultural dimensions. This concept embraces hard to define personal subjective aspects and objective aspects.
Numerous theorisers of the nursing discipline have studied providing “comfort care” as a phenomenon. Comfort, easiness, and wellness are terms commonly found in a great many of their proposals when defining the action of care.
Katherina Kolcaba has developed a theoretical framework for providing comfort care. In her framework, the comfort of the nurse is described as a therapeutic element to increase the comfort and wellness of the patient.
