Abstract

This article sets forward key ideas to help understand the holistic point of view and its relevance in healthcare, as an evolution in the conception of human beings that we nurses cannot obviate in line with the situation of today’s world and the communities where we render our services. The article is intended to introduce a subject which in essence has always accompanied nursing and that in other countries constitutes a branch truly integrated into our work by the hand of natural therapies. This base and self-knowledge are of great interest to understand our role as companions in the vital process of the patient and his or her surroundings to alleviate their suffering. Refocusing on the consideration of the spiritual essence of living creatures, we transmit an intense light on their crisis in general and on the field of palliative care in particular, enhancing the power of communication.
