Abstract

This work was presented at the XII Meeting for Initiation to Research-UNIFOR 2006.
Fournier syndrome is a disease of variable aetiology that involves the perineal and genital region, leading to thrombosis of small subcutaneous vessels and progression to skin necrosis as a result of the coordinated action of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. A research project was undertaken in the way of a case study of a patient with Fournier syndrome. Data were collected between june and july 2006 through direct observation and informal patient interview. Bibliographic search was done as a source of information with the aim of describing the pathology and comparing the results against those collected in the research. This study allowed us to learn more about this practically unknown clinical situation, which, if not treated correctly, can result in a bad prognosis.
