Abstract

Gender violence is considered one of the most serious violations of human rights. It originates from any situation of abuse towards the integrity of a woman, damaging her dignity and her self-value/self-worth as a person. Gender violence occurs at every social stratum, regardless of age, race, socio-economic status, education, religion, sexual orientation and the work place.

Gender violence has become a burgeoning public health problem reaching the proportions of an infectious disease, with ample implications for health care providers. In this regard, nurses constitute a fundamental group both for the medical attention as well as for the prevention and detection of these problems. Because of this, we have approached this subject from the perspective of M. Leininger’s theoretical framework.
