Abstract
The observation and monitoring, as well as the skills of nursing staff in verbal and nonverbal communication, foster an appropriate differentiation between the possible organic disorders and psychiatric disorders.
This work aims to:
- Describe the relationship between organic and psychological symptoms in a psychiatric patient.
- Describe the role of nursing in the patient's internal conflict facing a psychosomatic disorder.
- Explain the importance of correct verbal and nonverbal communication from a patient with a psychiatric disorder.
The results and conclusions of the study show that nurses have a key role in observing, evaluating and monitoring psychiatric patients and when to intervene in the interaction between psychiatric and functional disorders. Through various forms of communication, the complicated task of distinguishing what is real organic symptom or if it relates to their mental pathology is improved. Communication with the patient, along with hard work, is a tool that helps professionals to intervene with a psychosomatic interaction and collaborate in the differentiation of symptoms in order to achieve a good nursing diagnosis and to assist in medical diagnosis.
