Abstract
The history of Plasencia hospitals began almost with the founding of the city in 1186. These were created as a result of requirements in certain circumstances of each era.
We could find records of up to 10 hospital stays that lay the foundations of assistance which currently is a district referral center. However, we should be bear in mind that the concept of a hospital, as we understand it today, has not always been so.
Among them, the Hospital of Santa Maria has survived over several centuries during which it has acquired a great importance at provincial, national and even international level and several references about its foundation, administration, architecture and inner workings which are especially interesting, can be found.
