Abstract

There are few specifications as to how to perform the follow-up after the mother has been discharged from the hospital following the birth of her child.  For those newborns and their mothers who have been discharged from the hospital within the first 48 post-partum hours, the American Association of Paediatrics and the School of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommend one follow-up visit within those two days following their discharge from the hospital.

The purpose of this article is to reflect upon the visit’s ideal format, in what setting it must take place, what professional must be in charge of it, as well as how to revise the existing recent literature on the subject.
