Resumen
El cuidador, más bien la cuidadora, puesto que sigue siendo un rol mayoritariamente femenino, es el sustantivo que define nuestra profesión, la Enfermería, y que actualmente se asocia a la figura familiar que asume los cuidados, a veces muy especializados, con toda la carga emocional que conlleva, especialmente, si el que cuida es su hijo/a.
Este artículo pretende rendir un hondo reconocimiento a estas mujeres y a sus familias para al mismo tiempo reflexionar sobre nuestra relación con ellas y sus familiares. ¿Cómo les consideramos?, ¿qué les aportamos? Si la familia es el ejecutor de los cuidados ¿cómo nos planteamos ayudar a cuidar?

Abstract:
The carer, more likely to be a female, as this continues to be a primarily female role, is a noun which defines our profession, the nursing profession. The role of the carer is nowadays associated with the family figure that takes responsibility over the care provided, sometimes highly specialised care, with the high emotional load that that entails, even more or if the carer is the patient’s son or daughter.
This article is intended to honour the role of these women and their families in recognition for their work and is also intended to make us think about our relation with these women and their relatives. How are they considered by us? What do we give them? If the family is the health provider or carer in these cases, how can we help the family care for the patient?
