Abstract

Obesity is one of the most frequent demands for health care service in primary care. It is the cause of high level dissatisfaction of both clients and nursing professionals because is very time consuming and requires a great effort from both parts. In addition, the outcomes are rarely succesful. Our experience has shown that the traditional individual approach is ineffective. Although at the beginning seems to be useful it is not able to achieve modifications of the lifestyle. We propose to addopt a different approach by working on self-esteem, self –body image and role–relationships with groups of people. Here we explain the experience with the first group and the results.
