Abstract

This article described a training initiative in the area of Geriatric Nursing, between the Department of Nursing of the Universidad de Cantabria and the Smith-Nephew corporation, consisting of a virtual post-graduate course on chronic wounds offered for the last four years. The course is an Internet-based course through the virtual classroom of the University of Cantabria, within the Centre for Training of New Technologies. (CeFoNT). At this time, this initiative is undergoing changes and being reviewed in the framework of an interuniversity agreement between the Universidad de Cantabria and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in order to make it an accredited official postgraduate course. Aspects to be assessed include the need to adequate the training of healthcare professionals and to ensure that the training offered metes quality criteria and the required qualification.
