Abstract
Discussing the figure of the counsellor as a professional that is clearly involved in the development of competences of future nursing professionals is widely justified in the today’s scenario, since it is in consonance with the new models of higher education, the objective of which is to promote self-direction, critical thinking and learning throughout life.
The objective of this article is to show the characteristics and fundamental features surrounding the figure of the professional counsellor to subsequently present a counselling proposal for undergraduate nurses students that perform their clinical practicum both in the primary care settings and in hospitals in our country. In addition, some clues are given to ensure a successful relationship between the student and counsellor.
