Abstract
One of the most relevant nursing interventions is User Health Education. It is however pointless to design good health programs if they do not reach the end-users, if these cannot understand them, share them or comply with them. This article reviews factors involved in behaviour modification that affect nursing professionals (educators) and patients (education end-users), highlighting the importance of considering variables such as culture, environment, need for change, trainer attitude, etc, in the educational process.
Using the concept of behaviour defined as “activity of the living organism in functional relation with its environment” as a starting point, a methodology is proposed to approach the educational process taking into account the previous aspects of the environment, the individual’s activity and the effects of environment on behaviour. The renal patient receiving haemodialysis treatment is used as an example.
