Abstract
The Rovira i Virgili University (URV) Nursing School, located in Tarragona, signed a collaboration agreement in the form of a joint project with the University of La Frontera (Chile) with the objective of improving teaching innovation and adapting its academic curriculum to the European Space of Higher Education. The Project involved training activities with professors from the University of La Frontera Temuco (Chile) in January of 2006, which favoured the introduction of changes during the 2007-2008 school year and following the training received, into the evaluation system of the Fundamaental Princicples of Nursing course, a core subject within the university nursing degree curriculum. This work presents the methods employed to assess conceptual and procedural knowledge acquired. Assessment tools were designed in January of 2006 and have been employed in the first evaluation of the theoretical and practicum parts of the course before students began to attend practicum classes at different healthcare institutions. The Modified Trial instrument was used for the conceptual assessment and the Clinical, Objective and Structured Evaluation (COSE) tool was used for the procedural evaluation. This experience was presented in part at the International Congress on University Teaching and Innovation (CIDUI) 2006.
