Abstract

The potential complications that may occur after liver transplant surgery and during the immediate postoperative period (IPP) can beclassified in two main groups:

– Surgical complications that need surgery to be solved.
– General complications that can be resolved with medical therapy.

Both can be prevented and recognized promptly by the nurse. This team has reported the first group few months ago. Within the second group there are 8 different types although digestive, infectious and neurological complications will not be addressed in this report because they are less frequent during the immediate postoperative period.IPP is understood as the time since the patient comes out from the operating until the patient leaves the recovery unit. The are two factors that influence the general complications: the previous patient condition and the surgery procedure.
