Abstract

THE MODEL SIGNO II is a tool used for the management of nursing units, developed within the Signo Project for Analytic Management from the Health Ministry (1992).

In this article it is introduced the quantification of the nursingcare offered at Hospital Virgen de la Poveda, through theimplementation of Model Signo II.

Nursing servicies are described on a 5 standard basis:
– Needs identified in every patient.
– Nursing Diagnosis formulated.
– Plannification and registration of care interventions.
– Nursing activity areas.
– Length of care per patient/day.

As a result of the analysis of nursing care and theircharacteristics it concludes a System for Patients Classification based on 3 levels of dependency in nursing care:
– Patients REQUESTING MINIMUM CARE.
– Patients REQUESTING MEDIUM CARE.
– Patients REQUESTING MAXIMUM CARE.
