Abstract
Objectives: Descriptive study to compare the blood glucose seft-monitoring pattern of people with diabetes and the cost that involves,with a standard protocol (SAMFYC); as well as the association of thatpattern with the patient's metabolic control.
Subjects: Family units with a diabetic member, who have been trainedin blood glucose self-monitoring at least two months before the studywas started. Setting: Las Navas de la Concepción (Sevilla).
Variables: Type of Diabetes Mellitus, treatment, who tested theglucose in blood, documented results, blood glucose self-monitoring pattern, average of patient´s tests by month.
Results: The blood tests have been made: the 82,14% by the ownpatient and the 17,86% by the careproviders. The 69,64% of subjectsdocumented the tests´ results. The average of patient´s tests by monthwas 9,62, the HbA1c mean was 6,46% and the total monthly cost was60710 ptas., what means a 50,57% of the standard.
Conclusions: The studied pattern didn't follow the SEMFYC´s standard.The pharmaceutical cost was the 50% from the standard, maintaininga good metabolic control. The 69,64% of subjects documented thetests´ results.
