Abstract

After ten years of professional activities caring a great number of patients atdifferent ages and illness processes, the author of this article detected that theneed of being listened and understood is something common among them.Based on that, she made the reflection about nursing profession that is presentedhere. On these days, when competition, outcomes and quantification of nursingcare cost are considered the main issues it is worth remaining that nursing inessence has to do with a holistic approach to human beings. This makes necessary stopping for a while and taking time to give a deep thought aboutprofessional nursing responsibilities toward people. It is important not to forgetthis major nursing tasks: listening, understanding and comforting when required.
