Abstract

Nowadays, Continuous Slow Therapies (CSTs) are the most recommendedtreatment for critical patients which develop clinical conditions likerespiratory insufficency with liquid and solutes overload, fluid andelectrolites imbalances, hypercatabolism and hemodynamic inestability.

Continuous Slow Therapies (CSTs) have in common certain characteristicslike they are easy to use and based on an extracorporeal circuit for slowwater and solutes elimination. This circuit requires specific nursing care.

The reader of this article will be able to:

- Identify potential problems that could appear during CST application.
- Define the nursing care protocol for critical patients in CSTapplication.
