Abstract
It is estimated that in Spain there may be more than 120.000 cases ofpeople infected by HIV. The aim of this study was to assess the level oftraining about HIV and identifying the factors, which can produce anattitude of rejection or discrimination against affected patients affected,in the nursing professionals from Mérida´s Hospital.
A transversal descriptive study was carried out. The population wasformed by 90 nurses from Mérida´s State Hospital. The selection wasachieved through a randomised simple sampling with a 8,2% ofsampling error and 95% confidence. A questionnaire, elaborated by theSpanish Health Ministry, was utilised to collect data.
The obtained results showed insecurity on the part of the staff (aboveall in older age groups) for looking after to these patients; rejectiontowards them overtly shown therefore, training programmes shouldimplemented in order to provide the personal with upgradedknowledge concerning concerning this illness and consequently, a morepositive attitude towards patients.
