Nursing primary care of patients operated in major surgery clinics

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to know the percentageof patients, operated in the Out-patients Major Surgery Department(OMSD) of Toledo, who made use of Primary Care (PC) Nursing andwhat kind of care they needed.

Design: Descriptive; cross-sectional.

Participants: 174 patients operated in OMSD.

Results: 93 right tests were admited (53.5%). Hernia (82.7%) andanorectal pathology (8.6%) were the kind of operations more frequent. 51.6% patients made use of PC Nursing Service, 85.1% ofthem were for injury cure and 36.1% were for health education. In82.8% of the case-histories, there were not reference that the pa-tient was to be operated, and in 23.7%, there were not posteriorreport of the operation carried out.

Conclusions:

- A high percentage of patients who are operated in OMSDs, ask forPC Nursing care.

- The information wich in the Primary Care Team is had, above all af-ter the operations, is deficient.
