Abstract

This study evaluates the relationship of various personal, familiar and institutional factors with the appearance of Burnout Syndrome. We used the Maslach Burnout Inventory together with the Dysfunctional Attitude Inventory and a questionnaire elaborated by our own group to assess personal and occupational factors in a sample of 38 teachers of Nursing at the University Centre of Mérida. The analysis of the results shows that no significant level of burnout syndrome is found in the sample and that certain dysfunctional attitudes such as an excessive need for approval, a self-evaluation that is excessively based on the degree of performance, and the belief that other individuals should take our wishes more into account, are risk factors which could cause the development of this disorder.
