Abstract

Cancer is an illness in which nursing practice could play an important role, both in primary as well as in secondary prevention. Testicular cancer is the most frequent form of cancer in males aged15 to 35 years; however, if it is detected in its early stages, the possibilities of cure increase considerably.

The aim of this article is to promote regular testicle self-examination in fertile males using patient education as a tool since adolescence. This instruction will enable men to screen for testicular cancer and to detect it in its very early stages.

We propose a double objective: To establish and encourage health habits through testicular self-examination and good hygiene starting in adolescence, and to support the continuity of these habits throughout reproductive age. In this sense, males should understand the economic, social, psychological and reproductive repercussions that early detection affords, not only from an individual but also from the point of view of the community.
