Abstract

This study was conducted in order to understand the main forms of employment in nursing and its association to the variables of sex and age, and also to present further improvement proposals aimed at achieving an employment policy based on equality and skill. To this end, a quantitative-qualitative study was carried out in a sample of 100 nurses at Hospital Ramón y Cajal from Madrid. The results were polarized between young and eldest. A temporary contract was found to be the most representative, followed by accumulation of nursing tasks and temporary sick leave. Employment was considered an economical value, with a score of 7.65 over 10. Criteria for employment were not considered to be good. The measures proposed included an abolition of a system of arbitrary employment and the recognition of attitude and skill of the workers. It is gratifying to find out that 87% of professionals in healthcare are satisfied and happy with their job.
