Abstract

For nursing to survive and grow as a career, theoretical contents have to be integrated into the professional practice. The case report presented attempts to bind together both the theoretical and practical contents by developing a praxis based on the Roy Adaptation Model as a guide for the care of a patient that suffered an acute myocardial infarction and who was admitted into the Coronary Intensive Care Unit.

The following process was implemented: assessment of behavioural responses and stimuli, establishment of nursing diagnoses, establishment of objectives & goals, selection of a nursing plan and subsequent implementation, evaluation of the results obtained and modifications, as needed.
