Abstract
• A bibliographic review was carried out on risk factors related to premature rupture of the membranes (PROM). PROM is a complication that can arise during pregnancy and which increases the foetal-mother morbi-mortality.
• Multiple risk factors related to PROM have been identified. The modification of these factors through Health Education (adapting the dietary-hygienic habits of the expectant mother) could reduce the incidence of this complication.
• A High Risk Pregnancy Profile could be established based on the risk factors associated with PROM. This profile would permit an early diagnosis. A stricter control of this type of pregnancy would allow health professionals to give patients better health care by taking suitable preventive measures against the risk factors detected, thus reducing this complication.
