Abstract

The health of our elders is based on their previous health condition and on the risk factors that a person has been exposed to all his or her life, in addition to their habits and behaviours.

Physical exercise is important for many reasons. It improves functional capacity, delays bone density loss, stimulates the development and maintenance of muscle mass, favours and increases respiratory and cardiac capacity, decreases anxiety and sadness, increases self-esteem, favours social relations, etc.

Considering these benefits of physical exercise and keeping in mind that only 1.2% of people over 65 exercise on a regular basis, it is necessary to develop measures to promote physical activity, including the program that is explained below.
