Abstract

The aim of this quasiexperimental study was to show the effectiveness of group education to decrease anxiety levels and to acquire skills to control such anxiety in women with a nursing diagnosis of anxiety, since this is a common and hard to deal with problem in Primary Health Care. Three workshops were conducted, each lasting between three and four months, and with 20 participants each. A therapeutic package at cognitive level, containing cognitive reconstruction and personal development, was used. After carrying out the Goldberg test, both before and after the workshop, as well as filling in a questionnaire after the workshop, the following significant results were found: reduction in the degree of anxiety in 58,6% of the cases, 60% found relaxation very useful and 85% found the knowledge obtained applicable to their lives. We think group work allows for a better expression of conflicts, worries, and resolution of problems, while encouraged self-help at the same time.
