Abstract
Objetive: To investigate both the applicability of the protocol for tetanus immunization in the emergency room of Fundació Sanitaria d,Igualada and the knowledge of the population reagarding their tetanus immunization record.
Method: Cross-sectional study with a consecutive sample of 100 patients at the emergency room.
Results: 73% of patients declared to know their own immunization status but only 7% had the actual immunization redord. Only 7% of the patients said to be well immunized, but they did not have the card. The immunization protocol was well applied in 70% of cases.
Conclusions: The results of this study showed the high level of bad tetanus immunization and that the protocol is not always well applied in the emergency room. Setting up a specific information system and allowing nurses to take charge of the follow up of patients would increase the coverage of tetanus immunization in the population.
