Abstract
Arthroscopy of the shoulder is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows the surgeon to get a diagnosis and treat numerous shoulder joint pathologies. The nurse who is taking part in the surgical procedure should be familiar with shoulder arthroscopy and the surgical procedures involved with the anaesthesia, patient positioning, required instrumentarium, surgical techniques employed, and other tasks to be carried out during the pre and postoperative periods. This article describes the most frequent conditions for which arthroscopic surgery is required, the nursing care involved in the preoperative setup, during the actual surgery and postoperative period. The implementation of this nursing plan is the only way to ensure that the patient who undergoes a shoulder arthroscopy gets the best possible care.
