Abstract

The admission of a schizophrenic patient to the acute unit is the result of an in-crease of positive and negative symptoms of the patient´s mental condition. When this happens the care provided by the nurse is of outmost importance for the treatment of the schizophrenic patient, since we are the bridge between re-ality and the unreal and distorted world in which the patient lives in most cases.

The primary objective of the nursing care is for the patient to become as self-sufficient as possible in the day-to-day life. It is almost necessary for the patient to become aware of his illness to the best of his ability and to follow the treatment prescribed correctly.
