Abstract

Blood extraction for laboratory analysis is a common procedure in the nursing practice. Errors are commonly made when taking blood samples that result in inaccurate results, and, on occasions, in the sample being rejected by the laboratory, which means a new extraction. It is the responsibility of the nursing professional to prevent, to control and to minimise possible errors. The aim of this work is to know which these errors are and to identify their causes, especially those that might be related to the skills of the nursing professionals in the performance of their duties.
