Abstract
In the 90s the development of an Evidence Based Practice caused commotion in the health community and their views. This concept started within the setting of the medical practice, but subsequently a wider range of healthcare professions adopted it. Nurses are a key piece within the context of Evidence Based Practice. The objective of this article is to reconfirm Evidence Based Nursing (EBN) as the most adequate means to guarantee a safe and efficient nursing practice and to show its contribution in the increase of individual knowledge. Based on a detailed description of its phases and the tool its uses, it is our wish to contribute to the diffusion and analysis of a style of working, which probably adjusts the best to the real needs of the decision making process regarding the care of patients/users while guaranteeing at the same time that the care provided is of the best possible quality. This article defines Evidence Based Nursing and its phases and analyses what we have learnt from Evidence Based Nursing since its beginning.
