Abstract
TIn 1987, the Sigma Theta Tau Honorific Society or STTI launched a program elaborated from the perspective of advance process of globalization, its repercussions on health and its consequences for the nursing practice, the objective of which was to enhance the creative and critical thinking process among nursing professionals all over the world while at the same time creating a preferential vision of the professional future of nursing. The program referred to ARISTA (Greek word meaning "the most intelligent") has prompted a series of meetings with nursing leaders all over the world. The aim of this article is to present the most important aspects of this process and to analyse the involvement of Spanish nursing professionals. Several nursing professionals in Spain have actively taken part in the last ARISTA meeting held in Sorrento (Italy) in 2003.
