Abstract

The functional bandaging of the ankle is a frequent therapeutic intervention in emergency care. The bandaging is applied to immobilise the joint, to diminish pain and inflammation, and to promote healing of the damaged tissues. Three different techniques can be employed to bandage the ankle. This paper presents a description of the procedure including the specific points of each of them. The potential complications derived from using any of these techniques are also highlighted, together with the special considerations that must be taken into account according to the characteristics and general state of health of the patient.
