Abstract
Objective: to compare the different aspects of the advertising of tobacco and alcoholic beverages in Spanish scientific magazines.
Material and method: This transversal descriptive study analyses the advertising appearing in several magazines over a 4-year period.
Results: the advertising of tobacco and alcohol occupied nearly a 32% of the total surface of the studied magazines. High content beverages such as whisky were predominant, being beer the least advertised beverage.
Conclusions: scientific magazines dedicate a third of their surface to advertising, with a predominance of alcoholic beverages vs tobacco. This justifies the urgent need to develop the capacity for analysis and critical spirit of consumers in the light of this advertising bombardment.
