Abstract
From the beginning of time, the people (population) and those individuals who have been responsible for healthcare have established some relations that, in general, have been vertical in different degrees, according to the historical evolution and different professions. With the recognition of human rights and the democratisation of social relations, this trend is also starting to have an effect among healthcare professionals and the users. It is collected in the bioethical principle of autonomy and reflected in the informed consent.
Nursing professionals, given the role that they have assumed now, must re-examine their relationship with the users and the process of information that the users need in order to reach well informed and free decisions regarding their health.
