Abstract
Nowadays, healthcare therapeutic measures are aimed at performing bloodless or nearly bloodless techniques, avoiding as much as possible the potential risks inherent to invasive procedures. In mechanical ventilation, the use of non invasive techniques is becoming more and more frequent. This implies the need for nursing professionals to refresh and update their knowledge so that they are prepared and know how to apply these techniques as well as to avoid and/or detect the possible complications derived from their use in the early stages.
The aim of this work is to describe the concept behind Non Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (NIMV), how it works, and the advantaged and disadvantages that the method entails for the patient. A nursing implementation protocol is also proposed for the care of the patient being treated with this system of ventilation.
