Abstract

Due to its variability of origin and cultures, medical care to the immigrant community  makes it necessary for the nursing professional to make an assessment where the different cultural models relating to their own body, the health and the disease are reflected as well as the ideological framework of the immigrant’s values.

An assessment based on M Gordon´s functional patterns will teach us how to deliver integral care to the immigrant population, with the possibility to render personalised care and attention to the cultural diversity of our community.

The nursing assessment is an educational element for the professional development of future nursing generations and facilitates the application of nursing plans, as many nursing professionals establish nursing diagnoses that due to a lack of training in transcultural approach are not accordant with the values and beliefs of the immigrant patient.
